Caring for a loved one with memory loss or a movement disorder is an act of profound love—but it can also be isolating, exhausting, and overwhelming. Caregivers give so much of themselves, often putting their own needs aside to ensure their loved ones receive the support and attention they need. At CJFS, we understand that caregiving is not a journey meant to be taken alone. Connection is at the heart of sustaining caregivers and strengthening the well-being of both those giving and receiving care.
For the past decade, CJFS CARES has been a source of connection and community for individuals living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, stroke, and other cognitive and movement disorders. CARES provides a safe, engaging environment where participants can find joy and enrichment, while caregivers gain peace of mind and much-needed respite. But more than that, CARES creates a network of support—a place where families know they are not alone.
None of this would be possible without the dedication and kindness of our incredible volunteers. From leading activities to offering a listening ear, volunteers play a crucial role in creating the warm and welcoming environment that makes CARES so special. Their presence brings joy to participants and comfort to caregivers, knowing their loved ones are in compassionate hands.
This year, as we gather for Hands Up Together 2025, we are celebrating 10 years of CARES and the countless lives it has touched. From the very first day, CARES has been a place where laughter, friendship, and compassion thrive. We have witnessed beautiful moments—spouses able to take a deep breath knowing their loved one is safe and happy, friendships forming among caregivers who understand one another in ways others cannot, and individuals who may struggle with words but still find ways to express joy through music, art, and shared experiences.
As we mark this milestone, we also look ahead, committed to ensuring that CARES continues to grow and serve more families in need. Hands Up Together 2025 is not just an opportunity to celebrate and donate—it is a chance to honor the caregivers, participants, and volunteers who make this program so meaningful and to rally our community in support of this vital work.
