Marjorie Perlman and Tacala Save the Day!

In 2010, CJFS was excited to receive a gently used Ford sedan from Tacala, a Birmingham-based company that operates Taco Bell franchises in seven states.

Since then, the red Taurus has made it possible for CJFS Assistant Care Managers Amy Peetluk and Lynn Rathmell to escort older adults on literally thousands of trips to the doctor, to the grocery store or on any other errands they chose. “The Taurus was a wonderful vehicle. It provided comfortable transportation for our clients for eight years, and we were incredibly grateful,” Amy said.

But all good things must end. As maintaining the Taurus began to be costly, the agency began looking for a replacement … and we didn’t have to look far. Marjorie Perlman, a former CJFS board president who is Tacala’s Chief Marketing Officer, asked the company’s Chief Development Officer whose department is responsible for fleet management to let her know if another Tacala fleet vehicle became eligible for donation.

A few months later, the call came, and CJFS Executive Director Lauren Schwartz picked up a gently used Toyota Camry at Tacala headquarters.

“Tacala has donated a second vehicle to CJFS because my peers on the Senior Leadership Team know how important the organization is to me and I know how important it is for older adults to have access to safe, affordable transportation,” Marjorie said. “Tacala is proud to partner with an organization that cares for those in need right here in our hometown.”


Through its “Just Like Family” program, CJFS provides escorted transportation, personal affairs assistance, family liaison services and more.
